Employment-related disputes are often highly contentious and emotionally charged, yet most can be resolved with the help of a skilled neutral. A natural, creative problem solver with nearly 30 years of legal experience, Danae Woodward has the legal expertise and personal temperament needed to serve as a highly effective mediator and civil collaborative attorney.
Danae has spent her legal career practicing labor and employment law, both as a litigator representing employees and as an in-house attorney for large, publicly traded companies. She began her legal career as an employment litigator in Austin, Texas, before moving to Baltimore, Maryland, where she represented individuals and labor unions. In 1998, Danae and her husband moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she spent the next 12 years practicing as an in-house counsel for multi-national companies and in local government.
Danae began mediating in 2006 and quickly developed a reputation as an engaging, persistent, and innovative mediator. She served as the chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Section for the 2014-2015 term and now mediates disputes throughout the Southeast. Danae has handled workplace, pre-litigation, and litigation employment disputes in the public, private and non-profit sectors, pre and post-ADR employment cases for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and attorney-client fee disputes. She is also a trained civil collaborative attorney who welcomes opportunities to help parties resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Danae now practices employment law in her own Charlotte-based firm where she represents employers and helps executives negotiate employment, compensation, and exit packages. While Danae is deeply committed to the full range of her legal practice, she especially enjoys her work as a mediator, which leverages all of her legal and interpersonal skills. Danae’s experience as an in-house attorney and advocate for both employers and employees allows her to understand and build trust among diverse parties, helping them untangle and resolve disputes.
